Highlights
Grade 1 scrambling is an activity between walking and climbing, so expect to use your hands regularly on the route. Part of a mountain journey, you may employ a rope for safety, and you'll get to some amazing places. Join The Lakes Mountaineer to be guided up some of the scrambling classics of the Lake District. You tell us where you'll be based and the grade you'd like and we'll find somewhere within a short drive.
There are three grades of scramble: Grade 1: Think walking on steep rocks when you need your hands. You may wear a helmet and harness, but we'll only use a rope for certain sections. Grade 2: You'll need you hands pretty much all the time, and we'll be roped for much of the scramble. Grade 3: As with grade 2, but includes short sections of rock climbing.
Itinerary
Depending on the route, we may use harnesses and helmets so we'll practice what we'll do on some easy ground before heading onto our challenge. The routes are part of a journey through the mountains, and before you know it, you'll be looking down at the valley wondering how you got up there and what happened to all that time.
Popular Choices for grade 1: Striding Edge and Swirral Edge on Helvellyn; Stickle ghyll and Jack's Rake in The Langdales; Sharp Edge on Blencathra from Keswick.
Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult at all times, so at least 1 adult must be a participant.
